Fathers Day Treat Boxes

Ok so I'm really excited I just wanted to show my newest creation. I made these for the dads at church. As you can see I didn't need to make too many :). I am going to put in a plug for the silhouette SD. I love it. I used the box bottom and box top cutting files. It was so easy. I found clip art that was a silhouette of a hammer. I used the trace feature and that's how I got the hammer cut out in the middle of the box lid. The #1 dad tag was made using word art from scrapgirls "JDE_wnature" I used the print and cut feature after importing the image. I inked the edges of the lids and tags using cocoa ink from close to my heart.

#2 helped. She really enjoyed using the sponge dauber (another ctmh tool)to distress the edges of the lids. We taped them up to make the boxes and lids and filled them with candy. I hope the dads like them. We had fun making them. I'm really working on learning more about how to use my silhouette to it's fullest. I think I'm in love with the print and cut feature.

a super simple skirt

So I found this awesome blog, Made!! she has some really great tutorials on how to make kids clothes and adult clothes too. As a beginning sewer I am loving all the ideas to be found there. She also shows you how to make some patterns. Yeah!!! I hate to buy something if I don't have to. So I was at the thrift store the other day and saw this sheet

my first thought was oh that would make the cuttest little girl skirt. So of course I bought it and got to work. Thanks to this tutorial Once I got my act together and had all the supplies,it was so easy. Curly hair loves it and told me I should make one for me, so we can match. I am really enjoying stretching myself and learning something new and actually having a finished project in my hands to show for it. I decided I need to learn how to sew, because I'm going to need to make dresses and skirts for her like my mom did for me. It's so hard to find modest dresses these days. I'm already having trouble finding modest shorts and she's so little. I'm afraid for when she gets bigger. I was lucky to have a mom who sews. I want my kids to have that too. Here's my finished project. Thankfully I have a muse who loves to have her picture taken.

Reusable Swiffer Duster

Look what I made. I'm so excited. I love my swiffer duster, but the dusting cloths get quite expensive after awhile. So while perusing through the blogging world I stumbled upon this tutorial at Sew Much Ado
The instructions were so easy to follow. I just cut up an old flannel sheet that had a hole in it. Why did I still have a sheet with holes in it??? I couldn't tell you, because I have no idea. This top left photo is of the duster when I just finished my cutting. The next photo is after going through the wash and dryer. So I will admit it's not quite as good as the swiffer for clinging all the little dust particles, but it still works good. plus it's free after a little time spent making it and I can use it again and again. I made 4.
